Let You Call Me Sweetheart

Hollywood

Dear Trader Joe's Employee with a voice smooth as whiskey,

Normally I do not take kindly to strangers using terms of endearment while addressing me; you, however, are hereby allowed to call me "sweetheart" and/or "darling" as often as you would like.

Rico Suave!

Wheels Up

Hollywood

Dear Motorcycle Rider dressed all in black with a full hemet that prevented me from having the slightest idea of what you looked like,

When you "popped a wheelie" down the middle of Vine Street,  the 7 year old boy inside me wanted to ask..."Are you a ninja?"

More Sweet Than Sour

Los Feliz

Dear Girls with the lemonade stand on Franklin Avenue,

Your story of:

"this guy... this guy... came by... on a... on a... bike... and gave us... like... ten dollars... and he only wanted... like this much... like... not even a full cup...!? "

was the best thing I heard all day.

Dollar well spent!

Grand Theatre

Mid-Wilshire

Dear Wiltern Theatre,

Thank you for being the kind of place in Los Angeles where a girl can get offered a "Texas sized beer", by a guy from Dallas, while the band tears up the stage with their own special version of "cow-punk".  Tonight, your gilded walls almost felt like home.

Cheers!

Stuffed

Beverly Hills

Dear Old Man seemingly stuffed into in a three piece beige suit while tightly buckled into the passenger seat of a black Cadillac SUV cruising Sunset Boulevard,

Thank you for sitting up so straight and still that I momentarily thought I might be witness to a real life version of Weekend at Bernie's.

Look alive people, look alive!

In The Cards

Los Feliz

Dear Girl With An Incredible Voice standing in line behind me at 7-11,

You broke into Elton John's "Daniel" and I had to restrain myself from turning around to look; you then said "sh*t I should have brought tarot cards!" and the temptation became too hard to resist.

Sing Out Sister!

Need for Speed

Hollywood

Dear Girl on the Orange Vespa,

I already thought you were cool by the mere fact that your vespa was orange, your helmet had racing stripes, and your bright kelly green blazer was an awesome fit and contrast; I hoped to gain further insight as we trudged alongside each other through rush hour on Sunset Boulevard, but you and your scooter moved much faster than expected!  Score one for the ladies.

You Rock!

Some Kind of Crazy

Downtown

Dear Man crossing the the street at 5th and Grand,

As you stepped off the curb I instantly sensed you were wired differently.  Were you going to be the "guy that argues with himself", or perhaps "guy that yells out words for no reason"?  Turns out, you were neither, I got "guy who stops and stands directly in front of my car".  You stared at me with bulging eyes and jaw dropped; then in a flash your momentary lapse ended and you continued on your "normal" way.  It was strangely intimate.  I wonder if you even saw me.

Tropical Angst

Los Angeles

Dear Anne Litt at KCRW 89.9 FM,

Thank you for playing Little Roy's reggae cover of Nirvana's song "Heart Shaped Box" this morning.  The auditory experience was so perplexing that I stopped thinking about myself and will now spend the rest of my day trying to figure out what just happened.

Mr. Manners

Hollywood

Dear Drunk Guy standing outside of Gelson's holding a handwritten sign that read "Irac War Please Help",

As I walked into the market, your greeting of "Look at you... you're an executive!" made me laugh.  As I walked out, your follow up line of "There she is... my nurse!" also garnered a chuckle.  As I walked away, your next line of "Mmmmmm... Do you know what I could do to you" gave me the serious creeps, but the fact that you quickly followed it up with "WITH you... things I could do WITH you!" somehow left me smiling.  You drunk gentleman you.

Call me a Doctor

Santa Monica

Dear Doctor wearing scrubs and eating lunch outside the Blue Plate on Montana Avenue,

You have the kind of handsome good looks one only ever sees on TV Doctors... not real ones.  Can I be the Meredith to your Derek?

Ladies Love Outlaws

Hollywood

Dear Long(ish) Haired Bearded Guy, wearing faded bell bottoms, worn out flat boots, leather belt, fitted concert tee, big sunglasses and a smile, while crossing Hollywood Boulevard during lunch hour,

Thank you for bringing back the 1970's outlaw country vibe; I'm just sorry it only lasted the span of a traffic light.

That's the Spirit!

Daredevil

Beverly Hills

Dear Not So Small Man riding down Sunset Boulevard on a not so large bike,

I loved your glittery stars and stripes Evel Knievel helmet!  It made me remember days when clothespins and a towel could become a super hero cape, and I believed anything was possible.

Viva Knievel!
